Results from the Va. Race ...May 06.2002,

Here’s what happened:

I showed up this weekend with a new Local crew guy. My regular crew (Mike) drove himself from Ohio to meet us. First round Q1 was cut short after a small fuel leak after developed. This is what transpired:

I did my burnout across the line and after being pushing back it was discovered that my secondary can was leaking some fuel. No biggie as I reached down and twisted the fitting tight.. Leak stopped… Ok I staged and put Both bulbs on…. Nurbert did the same. Tony (the starter) put the tree on autostart, then saw my Over flow oil Tank was dripping oil out the Puke tube, so he tried to stop me even though the tree was started, so he tried to pull my fuel shutoff. I saw that there was a problem so I in fact was the one that pulled the fuel shut off and aborted the run.

I found out later that the over flow can had 3 quatrs of oil in it due to the NEW crew guy not knowing that my dry sump oiling system needs to be Completely drained each time. Lesson Learned. (I lose a Q attempt) Now Rain……..

Day Two:

Rain,Rain And Rain. I’m not in the show, and have not taking the bike down the track in over a year now, Chit!.. So I staged in Q2 and the bike leaves well but after 3.5 secs it losses traction leans out and eats the SparkPlugs, After I peddle it once it blows up and I coast to a 8.05 @122 qualifying effort. But I need to change the top end now in less than 50 minutes to make 1st round against Tommy so we got busy, And even with the brand new guy we made it up until the last 5 minutes when I discovered that the cams were out of time and in order to fix it we would not be able to make the call as Top fuel was already starting to run…..

So we tried and we’ll do better next time. I lost my $ 1000.00 in qualifying monies also because I did not show up at the starting line as this is a Payout rule I guess. Monetary speaking I would have been better off to show up with a broke motor Fired my bike and staged, then went and collected my $ 1000.00 from Scooter. That’s not my style and I don’t think people would of appreciate that type of sportsmanship either so we took the gamble to try and make the call, but came up short. Hope I have explained myself as I’m determined to do better. It sux not being paid though! More to follow..   I will continue soon.

Last Tune-up 12-07-00

SgRacing Loses the battle but Win's the War..

Hello from the TopFuel desk,

Once again the race season has came and went. I need to tell you about The World Finals in Gainesville Florida. On Nov 16-20. We lost the battle but won the war… The really good news is that I was able to retain the 7Th place number plate for 2001. The bad news is that we were a DNQ for the first time this year. I make no excuses but there were also 5 others that were in the top 8 bikes that DNQ also. We were the best of the losers, so to speak because our team qualified as first alternate.

Our new weather station worked out quite well as, I could predict the tune-up with it. The track was ideal for record setting and there were some that were broken. Click here to view weather station readout..

The trip was long in the motor home but uneventful from a break down standpoint. That’s if you don’t consider the water pipe breaking on the way home and pumping all of our drinking water out on Route 75 somewhere in Tennessee. Other that that the "land yacht" held together quite nicely. The pit spot we had in Gainesville was really good and I have a picture of it posted here.

Since we were able to retain a spot in the top 8 bikes for the year I will be receiving a year end bonus check from Prostar. That always helpful.

I would like to thank all the people and sponsors that helped me out this year to. Not in any particular order though.

Spector Oil’s, Baldor Grinders, Trailer Wiz, Autolite/Fram. Mike Amburgey, Charlie Farmer, Hope Ulrey, Mike Law of (RaceWorks. Canada) and Sassy Cat Garrigan.

This winter I will be building two more "mountain motors" in hopes of curtailing the competition further. I will post more after the Holidays, Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving with your family..

Marty Kane passes away.

Marty Kane : editor of http://www.dragbike.com/

Dec 6,2000: Last night, at roughly 11:00 pm PST, Marty drove to the park where he went on many walks with his son. It was here that Marty felt like life was too much and took a gun and killed himself. As many of you might know, this past year has been very difficult on him with the loss of his marriage, business and the accident. I knew he was hurting, but also never imagined he would take his own life. This is something I will probably grieve for a long time. This is the last Video I have of Marty,

GodSpeed my Friend.

KilKare Note:

Well, I made it to Kilkare Saturday night, The crowd got to see what a Top Fuel bike looks like at 100 mph with the chain flying off!! Yea that’s right in front of 100's of standing cheering fans I hit the throttle and within 1.5 sec my bike made a starting line move that was for sure a record run, unfortunately the chain decided to break in front of everyone. Sparks everywhere and I coasted to the other end of the 1/4 mile. Bummer.  Well, I always say…."A bad day racing is better than a good day at work"…!

I got the whole ordeal on tape Click here to see.
